Musica Sacra Maastricht 2010
A festival of the arts and culture

Every third weekend in September, Maastricht is home to the Musica Sacra Maastricht festival. This year, the 28th edition of Musica Sacra Maastricht will be held from Thursday the 16th through Sunday the 19th of September 2010. Once again, many historical locations in this enchanting city in the South of the Netherlands will serve as a backdrop for surprising concerts and performances. From Western European compositions, to ancient Syrian hymns, from Gregorian to contemporary music featuring famous ensembles and soloists from the Netherlands and abroad, but also films, dance, projections, lectures and speeches, all of which are connected by the festival’s central theme: Devotion.

Musica Sacra Maastricht started out in 1983 as a ‘European Festival of Religious Music’, spread out over four weekends. Today, in 2010, the event has evolved to become a compact, thematic and groundbreaking festival of the arts which represents a journey of discovery of 'the sacred’. The concept of sacrality is interpreted in a manner that goes beyond a mere association with (Christian) religions.

Musica Sacra Maastricht offers visitors a way to enjoy art and culture framed by the beautiful city of Maastricht in the late summer!
